It’s important that we all play our part, be sensible, wash our hands often, and maintain a distance from anyone who is showing symptoms or is at particular risk from the virus.

The approach we are taking is under continuous review, underpinned by national Government advice, and the civic response to this outbreak is being guided by the five point action plan below.

We know that when it comes to times of crisis, Manchester people go above and beyond.

We come together, we follow advice, we help a neighbour in need, we will drop in on isolated people in our communities (if it’s safe to do so) and we will get through this.

1. DELIVERING OUR PUBLIC HEALTH ROLE 

Sharing and amplifying the latest advice around how the public can best protect themselves and their loved ones and what to do if you have Covid-19 symptoms. We are working in close partnership with our Public Health England and NHS partners.

2.TARGETING EFFORTS ON THOSE WHO WILL BE MOST AT RISK IF THEY CONTRACT COVID-19

Supporting and informing those over 70 or with pre-existing health conditions.

3. TARGETING SUPPORT AT OTHER VULNERABLE GROUPS 

For example those who are homeless, use food banks or have multiple and complex needs.

4. SUPPORT FOR SCHOOLS, BUSINESSES AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS 

Liaising with schools to help advise and make preparations for potential scenarios as the situation evolves and ensure they have the most up to date advice.

Collate information and support advice for Manchester businesses and act as a voice for businesses – lobbying the government to bring forward financial support packages for affected businesses urgently.

5. KEEPING OUR COUNCIL SERVICES GOING

Especially the most essential services for the most vulnerable. Ensuring we take a flexible approach to support a resilient workforce throughout this lengthy challenge who are able to focus on the above priorities. We need to lead by example in how we respond to this pandemic.
