Shelley Lanchbury
Labour Group Chair
Councillor for Higher Blackley

I was elected to Manchester City Council in May 2012, having moved to Manchester a few years earlier. My work prior to being elected was working both in the Voluntary and Public Sector. I had also been a Councillor in another Authority in the early 1990’s. All of this gave me the experience and confidence to want to continue to work and serve communities.
As a Councillor I have continues my interest in the Voluntary Sector by being a Trustee of Manchester Deaf Centre, Lifeshare (an organisation working with homeless young people) and the Higher Blackley Community Centre, and I am currently part of a working group looking at the Vountary and Community Sector in North Manchester.
I am a Governor at a local Primary School and also take my role as a Corporate Parent seriously as a visitor to our Childrens Homes. In Higher Blackley I am involved in the very successful “In Bloom” project run by the RHS and together with a number of Groups we work to make the area look and feel looked after and cared for and over the years have received a number of Awards.
I do not work alone but am part of a team with my colleagues Cllr Farrell and Cllr Sadler.
