Emma Taylor
Councillor for Ancoats and Beswick
I have been a Councillor for what is now the ward of Ancoats and Beswick since 2016.
I joined the Labour Party in 2013 as a student studying at Manchester Metropolitan University. I was the first tranche of students to be affected by the huge hike in tuition fees. The decisions made by the Lib Dem Tory coalition government politicised me, I felt that young people were being left behind.
One of my main prioritises on joining the Council was to fight the corner of young people across Manchester. Austerity over the last decade has given the young generation a raw deal, so I decided to join the Children and Young People Scrutiny Committee.
Since 2018 I have served as an Assistant Executive Member and have supported the Executive Member for Culture & Leisure and Neighbourhoods. Projects which I have been working during the last two years have been around enriching cultural education for Manchester schoolchildren and community cohesion.
As well as serving as a Councillor I am also a Trustee for Manchester City of Literature and Chair of Governors at Higher Openshaw Community School
