Gavin White - Councillor for Old Moat

Gavin White

Councillor for Old Moat

Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire. I came to Manchester in 1995 to study Architecture at University.  I moved to Withington in 1997.  I was a voluntary youth and community worker with a local charity for many years in Old Moat and joined the Labour Party in 2004.

I help set up the Friends of Old Moat Park group in 2002, and have been a governor at Old Moat Primary School since 2005.  Alongside the Old Moat Labour councillors, I helped the school to get a new building that opened in 2012 with funding agreed in the final days of the last Labour government.

I was elected as a Labour councillor for Old Moat in 2018 and continue to be actively involved in the Old Moat community with many local residents groups.

I sit on the Southway Housing People and Places committee as well as the Neighbourhood and Environment Committee, and the Planning and Highways Committee at the City Council

I am married with 3 young children, and my wife works in the NHS at a local hospital.

I am involved with many different campaigns to help stand up for people in our community here in Old Moat.
